ELECTRA'S DOLPHIN – PEPONOCEPHALA

Peponocephala Electra

Sea

Order

Odontoceti

Family

Delphinidae

Electra's dolphins live up to about 40 years, measure between 2 and 2.8 meters, and weigh between 210 and 275 kg. They are carnivorous and primarily feed on small fish and mollusks.

They live offshore, in the warm and deep waters of tropical and subtropical oceans (Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific). They can also be observed near the coasts or on a steep shelf that leads to deep waters, as is the case with volcanic oceanic archipelagos.

Sexual maturity is reached between 4 and 11 years old. Females can give birth to a calf every three to four years after a gestation period of one year.
