These dolphins live up to about 35 years, measure between 2.6 - 5 meters, and weigh between 300 and 500 kg. They are carnivores and feed on mollusks, fish, crustaceans, and krill.
The Risso's dolphin is a pelagic species, living between 400 and 1,000 meters in depth. They can occasionally be seen near the coasts. They migrate between summer and winter, following the variations in water temperature. They are found in temperate, subtropical, and tropical oceans.
Females can give birth to a calf every two to four years after a gestation period of 14 months.

Head
Rounded with a marked melon and an indistinguishable beak, a concave groove present between the mouth and the melon.
Dorsal Fin & Fins
Large falcate dorsal fin, long pointed and curved pectoral fins, tail with pointed tips and a pronounced central notch.
Coloration
Dorsal surface grey-silver to almost black, and ventral surface with white areas, with the body whitening as it ages and an accumulation of linear white scars mainly on the back and flanks.
